Jennings Archery Shop
Steve Jennings
I was born and raised in central New York into a hunting family, My father got me into archery at 5 years old. He always made sure we had targets to shoot at, in the backyard in the summer and in the basement in the winter. His passion for archery is still in me 55 years later. My first year bow hunting deer was in the 70’s and consisted of sitting on a bucket next to a tree or building a platform in a tree and hunt there all season. I wasn’t content with that so I built a portable hang on stand from conduit and plywood in 1978, that gave me the freedom to cover more ground and find less pressured areas and still get off the ground overlooking thick bedding areas. Not long after that we built racks on the back of our bicycles to haul our stands and gear in and out which let us get even further away from the crowds. We still hunt highly pressured public land today so all the tactics I learned in the 70’s and 80’s we still use today. The family and friends I hunt with now have honed those skills even more. Some of the best parts about hunting with a great group is getting a text saying “I need help dragging”, then getting back to camp for a hot meal and sharing stories during our nightly card games, then doing it all again the next day.
